Digital computers, internet, social media, etc. 1500s invention of printing press: suuuuuper important, changed everything society, politics, economy, galileo printed/distributed his ideas. Maps were more accurate: discovered new lands age of exploration, beginning of european colonization of the world how they came to dominate for hundreds of years. Became wealthy because of their colonies: first to develop military capabilities, more powerful ships, better weapons, etc, local indigenous populations did not stand a chance against european technological superiority. Rise of nationalism: protestant reformation people were buying the bible and reading it for themselves. Discovered that what it says in the bible is not really what the catholic church is doing critics begin to emerge i. e. martin luther in germany who created lutheranism as a stream of protestant religion. Anglican stream in protestantism henry viii wanted to divorce his wife but pope said no so he joined his own church where he could get one.
