Defined state as the organization that has a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory. Your contact with a state is called a state institution. Every state could be identified as an institution. Judicial system, the military and the education are also examples. Power could be anything; could be money, military, etc. Sovereignty: ability to carry out the actions or policies within a territory independently from external actors or internal rivals. Has monopoly of force over given territory. Highly institutionalized within states of power such as the armed forces, the courts and the police: the public view state as legitimate. Has political institutions to generate and carry out policies (bureaucracy) Those states that are able to fulfill basic tasks such as: defending its territory, making and enforcing rules, collecting taxes, manage the economy. Some states are capable of having control of their territory and some are not able to do so.
