Current status of canadian film industry connected to politics. Film industry a significant part of our economy (not just actors, directors, but electricians for sets, etc. ) 200 movies made per year in canada (maybe 50 get distribution) Total 2% , the other 98% was american movies. Total canadian films- 1. 4% of box office was canadian. Total canadian films- 5. 5% (it was higher because quebec films were so successful) French canadians are interested in seeing movies about themselves. However, english canadians are more interested in fast and furious etc. Quebec people are obsessed with their culture and language. They feel like they are under threat by the. Quebec was living under french rule for 150 years. French in 1759, the english took over the economy and the land. But not set by ottawa but set by quebec city. Wanted to create country for his own people (mixed aboriginal and french)
