It became a new world where anything was possible if you were prepared to work hard(cid:0)and was seen as a land of unlimited opportunities for those with money to invest or willingness to work hard. It was also an era of limited government/ (the government that governs best, governs least)(cid:0) government imposing taxes discourages people from investing. But maximum individual responsibility for well-being and opportunity(cid:0) people were expected to be self-reliant. Self-reliance meant work hard, save and plan for the future yourself(cid:0)deal with calamity of life yourself. Self-reliance was not only an economic necessity but also a measure of mortality(cid:0) people who are moral take more responsibility. Dominant ideas, values and beliefs: economic and social . survival of the fittest . Christianity/charity(cid:0) belief of giving than receiving, more self-reliant.
