Obedience - act of following direct commands given by an authoritative figure. Group - organized, stable collection of individuals in which the members are awarre of and influence one another, share common identity. Social loafing: exert less effort in group task than one would in an individual task. Groupthink: faulty group decision making as a result of trying to hard to agree. Altruism - self sacrificing behavior carried out for benefit of others. Bystander effect (apathy) - more people present, less likely one person will attempt to help another. Diffusion of responsibility: we are less likely to assist in a large group bc responsibility to help is shared (someone else will assist) Case of kitty genovese: 38 witnesses to stabbing and murder of kitty genovese over 30 minutes, no one called police or helped. Attraction based on situational, physical, psychological factors. Mere exposure effect: tendency for attraction to increase with frequency of exposure.
