At conception, the zygote is a single cell. then after 36 hrs 2 cell, then 3 cells at 48 hrs and so on. After 4-5 days you are a ball of cells with about 64 cells, then you get a progressive splitting and doubling of cells and then the cells specialize. The stages of pre-natal development: the germinal period. Lasts from conception until roughly 2 weeks, at which point the blastocyst is implanted in the uterus of the mother.
