Goals of treatment: to cure, etiology is important, but not necessary, causes can"t always lead to solutions, most important: identify the elements that are feeding the abuse. Aims of family therapy: stop abuse, stop the multigenerational transmission process, runs through families, alcoholism is preceded by a generation before of sufferers (i. e. children of the war) Identify the general concepts of systemic theories: experiential/symbolic family therapy, structured family therapy, strategic family therapy. Lecture 6: transgenerational/bowenian family therapy, adlerian family therapy. Hierarchy, roles, rules, subsystems and boundaries: hierarchy: structure of the family, abilities, rules, roles of each define place. Wholeness: can"t be broken into parts, must view the whole, emergent properties idea need whole system analysis as you lose pieces if you break it apart, chemical structure h20 (oxygen and hydrogen only if broken) Family values: made up of rules, roles, boundaries, subsystems in nuclear and family of origin, values: education, good partner, wealth, therapist must consider families values & their own.
