Theories of social development: psychoanalytic learning, social cognitive, ethological. Freud, erikson: view of children"s nature. Freud: motivated by unconscious drives for sex and aggression. Erikson: motivated to successfully resolve development crises: freud"s theory of psychosexual development, the developmental process. The id is what your born with instinctual drives you are born with- sex and aggression source of all psychic energy. The oral stage ( birth to 1 year) Develops at higher levels as you get older. The anal stage ( 2 years, toilet training) Latency period (6-12: erikson"s theory of psychosocial development, basic trust vs mistrust ( birth-1 year) Mother and father should be reliable so the baby can develop trust: autonomy vs shame and doubt ( 1-3 years) Trying to develop skills at this age. External factors shape behaviour: watson"s behaviourism, classical conditioning; little albert, systematic desensitization; exposure, relax every muscle part, drop what he"s most scared of to less, skinner"s operant conditioning (instrumental conditioning)
