The scieniic method: idenify a problem/quesion, formulate a hypothesis, gather data to test the hypothesis, good scieniic quesions should have: Reliability (inter-rater (consistency across ime); test-retest (consistency of experimenters) Data analysis and conclusions: drawing conclusions on data. Basic methods of data collecion (describing behavior: self-report methodologies. Interviews (structured [same set of quesions formulated for everyone the same vs. clinical [doesn"t have a ixed structure] e. g. , a doctors visit) Quesionnaires (writen responses), set of quesions; muliple choice, ill in the blanks, etc. (advantage: a lot of paricipants at once, save money. disadvantage: some misinterpret quesions due to low language skills: observaion. Observe children in their natural environment without interfering. Disadvantage: child might noice that someone"s observing them. General research design (detect relaionships: correlaional: predict behavior, experimental: explain behavior. Correlaional design: relaionship between two or more variables, how one variable causes the other.
