Socialization of children, controlling anti social behaviour, contributing to personal growth and prosocial behaviour. Direct and indirect influences (modelling), social managers (especially with young children, influence who the child is involved with) More single adults because people are marrying later, more divorces. People are living longer (women live longest) Decreased childbearing and childbirth at later ages. More friendly/sociable and get along with parents/peers. More often brought in for psychiatric care. Love isn"t enough, children become increasingly difficult if parents don"t provide rules and guidance. Less competent are children with permissive or rejecting-neglecting parenting, they have no expectations placed on them, no sanctions, no help with anything. Parental warm caries from warm and accepting to cold and rejecting. Has rules that are dictated - no discussions allowed. Rule enforcement is strict, punishment is harsh. Rules and demands are often non age appropriates.
