Reports multiple physical symptoms (dsm iv needed more than 4 symptoms to be diagnosed dsm v got rid of this: but they do not feel the urge to get treated instantly! So psychological issues are inferred for causing the symptom. Unmarried women in low socioeconomic groups: onset usually in adolescence. Women tend to ruminate more, while men will deal with problems with alcohol abuse. The expression of this disease can be different compares to cultural surroundings (men are more likely to drink then express anxiety to others) Strongly linked with aspd (people who commit behaviour that harms themselves or others: neurobiological-based inhibition (impulsive behaviour) in ssd. Impulsively checking about their health (ssd) vs. impulsively hurting others (aspd) Social/cultural roles might influence expression of aspd vs. somatic symptom disorder. Long term, correlated with their emotional state: so higher levels of anxiety=higher levels of chronic pain.
