1/4 are non violent criminals , 1/4 are violent criminals defining psychopathy. In 1952 the first dsm came out it"s a changing definition. Cleckley defines psychopath in 1941 is very similar to today"s definition. They argued that cleckley"s social aspect of the definition was not sufficiently apparent. Renamed in edition iii and iv as antisocial personality disorder. Instead of affective and interpersonal features which are very important to the description of the psychopath. Hare"s conceptualization of the psychopath is more in line with the original definitions and is the standard today (and what we call them) The term sociopaths somewhat still applies to antisocial personality disorder. Continuous variable - hare"s psychopathy checklist (pcl) total score is out of 40-42, the cutoff is at 30 (sometimes 25)- high scorers are at higher risk for psychopathy. Based on personality traits and observable behaviour. Patient can only be diagnosed with one personality disorder. The pcl r is a 21-item clinical rating scale.
