Week 11 - chapter 12: business intelligence, tg4: intelligent systems. Dumb (thin): very little software on digital device software on server does most of the work. Smart (thick): software on digital device does most of the work server only helps a little. Metaphysics: the beliefs behind the laws of physics. Information about each attribute: definition, name type of data, numeric, alphanumeric, alpha, date. Advantages of cloud computing: no hardware to buy, upgrade, repair or maintain, no software license to pay upfront, no painful software installs, no annual software and hardware maintenance fees, no software upgrades, easier to manage scalable. Dependant upon internet: denial of service, worldwide access, dependant on vendor less flexible control shared facilities security issues, data security. Data is being collected: at an increasingly rapid pace from many sources. New types of data are being collected internet of things: rfid tags, social media. Big data: data so large and complex it cannot be managed by traditional systems.
