Researchers have found that culturally heterogeneous teams tend to outperform single- culture teams on many tasks, including identifying problem perspectives and producing higher- quality ideas and solutions. But others have observed that information sharing drops significantly in these teams, and decision making can suffer as a result. Others have observed that increased globalization can actually make people become more entrenched in their own ways, leading to more divergence between cultures and customs. Those working in their non- native languages are at an incredible disadvantage. disadvantage. It takes them longer to communicate both in terms of getting their own messages across and in understanding what"s being said to them and around them. They get less credit, and they are often treated with less respect. Tip: follow up on either side when things don"t flow easily or don"t make sense. A second obvious problem is the fact that global teams work in different time zones, and have trouble coordinating their efforts.
