Sociology is a way of seeing the general in the particular. A way of seeing a particular event and being able to recognize it as something that is indicative of something that is a more general/wide spread social pattern. Sociology is a way of seeing the odd in the familiar. A way that will allow us to analyze things that are regular and common. Connections between the self and the social. Connections between the biography and the society world history. History: story of a society in the past. Theory- explanation/statement of how multiple things are related. Paradigm- a set of knowns" (general assumptions) that direct research in a given discipline. Five examples of paradigms how you think or feel about it, it is: social conflict- macro level analysis. The world is a stable and orderly place: structural functionalism- looking at the big picture (macro approach) The social world is real, it exists, it operates.
