Raymond williams identifies 3 ways of defining popular culture: Works and practices of the culture (art) Popular culture links the domains of the public and private, and blurs the borders more than any institution, in many instances regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. Culture from the common people - authentic culture. Popular culture as a struggle between subordinate and dominant groups in society. Popular culture is, by and large, well liked. Popular culture is the culture which is left over after we"ve established what is high culture (remnants) In order to be culturally worthwhile, it has to be difficult, thus offering exclusivity to its audience. Bourdieu notes that this supports class distinctions, whereas popular culture is more mass. Produced and high culture is produced on an individual scale. Advocates of this point highlight the fact that these divisions are fixed.
