Representation of sexuality and homophobia in popular culture. We now look for representations of sexuality in pop culture . The question of how sexual orientation is developed has long been the site of debate. Sexuality is produced, and taught, or sexuality is biological. Jackson katz: heterosexuality & homosexuality and are not objective but rather subjective reflecting a system of inclusion or exclusion within social spaces. David halperin: queer- by traditional definition- is whatever is at odds with the normal, the legitimate, the dominant. The term queer then reflects a positioning in terms of comparison with the so-called normative. Sexuality is an identity based on the object of one"s desire, as classified by gender in contemporary understanding. Heteronormative romance is signaled by boy meets girl . Queer theory suggests there is no real norm rather normal is a constructed category created via language. Heterosexuality is understood as the norm against which homosexuality is defined as deviant.
