We interact with others, and live in groups performing social roles; male/female, mom/dad. We recognize that our personal experiences are afected by our class, ethnicity, gender, age. We can have a diferent experience doing the same thing. Sociological research enables us to discuss social issues in an informed and criical manner. It shares common interests with other social sciences such as; psych, sociology, However, it does disinguish itself from other disciplines through its history, vocab etc. A system of shared beliefs, values, customs, and behaviours we use to negoiate the world around us. Oten these elements are passed down generaionally. Ray williams: a. a paricular way of a life or a group or people, and/or arisic criical work producing meaning. It is rooted in symbolic: physical, vocal and gestural signs that have arbitrary, socially learned and meaning. It is integrated within itself: that is, 1, 2 and 3 must be present for a culture to be whole.
