Black community living in an area with very little municipal investment. Destroyed between 1964 and 1969 with the purpose of developing industrial lands which never materialized. Regent park was developed in the late 50s as a social housing project meant to address poor housing in the working class community. The housing was considered substandard so they built social housing units. The ideal model development, low rise units with big open green spaces and park to develop community. Poverty was entrenched in this community with a very high new immigrant population. Easily constructed into a project for urban renewal. In 2008 there was discussion of renewal of regent park: sold property to developers to build a mix of housing types.
