Terminology family violence in terms of women abuse. Calling wife abuse because it limits the number of people: only limiting it to people in marriage contracts, excludes people who are in common law, or dating, does not represent how pervasive women abuse is in family. In our society, when we hear about men abuse women it"s (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)o(cid:374: cases where women abuse men it"s se(cid:374)satio(cid:374)alized a(cid:374)d its u(cid:374)usual, this is unusual because of patriarchal power relationships. Women were fighting for the cause of suffrage (the vote) Started in the uk, then in the us, then to cad: these three movements were happening simultaneously, 1880s-1920s. Women who join the suffragette movement were women who had the luxury of time: upper middle class wives of bankers, professionals, have time = have money. Enormous gap between rich and poor (there was no middle class) You had servants (nannies, maid, cook, chauffeur) bare minimum staff. Upper middle class had at least 3 servants.
