In our society, when we hear about men abuse women it"s (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)o(cid:374: cases where women abuse men it"s se(cid:374)satio(cid:374)alized a(cid:374)d its u(cid:374)usual, this is unusual because of patriarchal power relationships. Women were fighting for the cause of suffrage (the vote) Started in the uk, then in the us, then to cad: these three movements were happening simultaneously, 1880s-1920s. Women who join the suffragette movement were women who had the luxury of time: upper middle class wives of bankers, professionals, have time = have money. Enormous gap between rich and poor (there was no middle class) You had servants (nannies, maid, cook, chauffeur) bare minimum staff. Upper middle class had at least 3 servants.
