SOC 502 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Immigration Policy
Document Summary
Argument is that the point system sets up conditions forn violence in. Immigration policy brings together two completely contradictory notions. The first notion or basis is to facilitate and bring in cheap labour to meet the needs of big business. The states responsibility is to protect big businesses and the way to do that is extract extremely cheap labour. The second notion is that to build a nation which completely contradicts the first. When attempting to build a nation, you want to create the superior race. The superior race will not work for cheap labour. From 1759 all the way to present the focus of immigrant policy is to build a white british settler nation. This is still very much existent in immigration policy today. The aboriginal population was a big problem for the european. They did not want to be slaves, they revolted, they fought back, and when they were captured they resisted by commiting suicide.
