Violence in indigenous families: precolonial indigenous families. Foraging: the reason why we refer to them as this is because this was the economic situation and arrangement of society. The economic arrangement was that the whole society revolved around foraging this meant these were not agricultural arrangements. They went from place to place to look for wild vegetation and wild animals. You had to have an enormous land mass in order to do this and a small population to make sure everyone was able to eat. All of communities had treaties between them to say they wouldn"t approach other"s territories in order for each community to survive (they were collective and cooperative) Because they had to move around to find food, they were also known as nomadic societies meaning they did not have permanent settlements. Permanent settlements were only for agriculture societies (you had to cultivate land)
