Week 12 : women, work, family and aging (chapters 8 and 9) Looking at employment for white middle class women. Wanted to create equal opportunity for education and employment. Marxist; focused on how patriarchy and capitalism work together: meg luxon focues on who women doing unpaid labour in the homes, corporations banked on. They could pay men a lower wage cause women could do the other work for free: marxist feminists stated that capitalism could not survive without patriarchy. Socialist feminist built from marxist feminists: they wondered why all the unpaid labour was left for women. Why women were the only ones responsible for domestic labour and childcare: and how this work opposed them in the home, and outside of the home o. It was the site family problems; of women exploitation and violence: this, and pregnancy, oppressed women but interfering with the ability to economically support themselves.
