Document Summary

In the post-world war era, we have been producing increasing amounts of food. Despite an increase in world population per capita food production has been rising. Estimations indicate that close to 1/3rd of what we produce is wasted or lost before reaching people who need them. A significant portion of grains and oil seeds we produce is used as animal feed and bio-fuel. And although the numbers of people living in absolute poverty have declined in recent decades, the numbers of people who are suffering food insecurity globally and in canada have not declined. Some think that hunger may seem to be inevitable in a world with ever increasing numbers of people. Some observers argue that hunger has a lot to do with existing patterns of social inequalities not with lack of food. According to malthus population tends to increase at a geometric rate, whereas the food supply grows at an arithmetic rate.
