Deniz kandiyoti undertakes a review of the situation of women after colonialism and examines to what extent modern states such as turkey, iraq, pakistan, and india were successful in granting full citizenship rights to women. Many of the modern muslim states that were created after the end of colonialism introduced constitutions which gave equal rights to women and men. Undertook family law reforms in attempts to reconcile muslim women"s religious rights and their constitutional rights as modern citizens. In many societies women"s membership in the national community is marked by contradictions and ambiguities. Women in many muslim-majority societies, notably pakistan, bangladesh, and indonesia. Occupied the highest offices but also face major legal and social obstacles to full autonomy.
