Methods of studying the unconscious in therapeutic situations: dream analysis, free association: if i say a word- what do you think of, projective techniques, observations during psychotherapy, reactions to subliminal stimuli. Dream analysis, manifest vs. latent content, wish fulfillment. Analysis of dreams: royal road to understanding unconscious. The interpretation of dreams (1900): his book on dream interpretation. Manifest content: what is actually in the dream- what happens. Wish fulfillment: ive got an issue- unconsciously resolves by blaming someone else. Projective tests techniques: ambiguous stimulous- how you perceive it is linked to your issues, conflicts, biases you"re unaware of the way you come to the conclusion what is repeated or unusual stands out. Good if goal is to get insight into yourself. Comprehensiveness: it certainly tries to cover a lot- fairly broad. There are a lot of steps- not simple: could be more concise. You cannot test many things- because of denial/repression/forget. Use in terms of interpretation of art and literature.
