Impairment of receiving, sending and processing (verbal, nonverbal and graphic symbols) May be a result in primary disability or secondary disability. Can affect verbal and non-verbal communication; daily living, etc. Can affect cognitive processes (attention, money, problem solving, organization, etc. ) A communication disorder that results from damage to parts of the brain that contain language (typically in the left half of the brain). Difficulty coming up with words to say. Background noise/group situations are difficult to listen with. Number concepts, time, books and putting words together to form sentences is difficult. Speech limited to short utterances in less than 4 words. Left hemisphere of the brain (may have weakness in right side of the body; specifically arm and leg muscles) Greys anatomy example on youtube (aphasia on greys anatomy) Understand language spoken to them, just have troubles responding. May experience depression because they are aware of their communication difficulties.
