Nursing NUR102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Space Environment, Existentialism, Metatheory
Document Summary
Study of the existence and reality of nursing. Nurses look at the patient as an individual. Nurses should focus on relating and interacting with patients. Developed into 2 metatheories: existentialism and phenomenology. Relationship between the nurse and patient is analyzed. Human to human rather than a nurse to patient relationship. Nurse understands effects of their actions (therapeutic relationship) Nurse nurtures the patient (feeding, supporting, encouraging) Gestalt: a person is more then a sum of parts and is used often to increase a client s self-awareness by putting the past to rest and focus on the present. For example: nurse encourages patients to make goals or make changes in their lifestyle (nutrition) Dialogue: listening, interaction between the patient and nurse. Environment is very important factor (nightingales cannon) According to these 2 theorists, time and space = environment. Nurses support and manipulate the environment as patients interact with it. Well being: how well a person is doing.
