Was done to pinpoint the genes related to personality. These studies rest on 2 premises: genes code for proteins that in turn influence the functioning of, the functioning of many neurotransmitters are associated with neurotransmitters certain personality traits. Found that there is a connection with novelty seeking (tendency to search out and enjoy new experiences) and genetic markers of the dopamine system (which is involved in reward seeking) Found that there"s a linkage between adhd and novelty seeking and genes affecting the dopamine system. Rests on 3 core assumptions: psychic determinism all psychological events have a cause, symbolic meaning no action is meaningless. E. g. a professor cracking a piece of chalk and disregarding it. Id reservoir of our most primitive impulses, including sex and aggression (libido: entirely unconscious, id operates by means of the pleasure principle tendency to strive for immediate gratification.
