ARCH 131 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Current History, Punctuated Equilibrium, Human Reproduction
Document Summary
A major factor in the process of evolution is that organisms are, over time, faced with changes in their environments. Considering how much control we have over our environment (we grow our food, heat our homes, can cure many illnesses, etc. Make an argument one way or the other for this. Provide examples that support your view and help to illustrate it. I found it difficult to agree on either side of this argument. However, after researching both viewpoints, i am leaning towards the direction that believes that humans are still subject to natural selection. To begin, a large percentage of the world population is still exposed to countless diseases, environmental elements, animal predators and natural disasters without sufficient medical resources, shelter and food resources. This taken into context suggests that the human population on earth is apparently still subject to different environmental stressors that affect health, mortality risk and potential to reproduce.
