Description
UNIT 2 EVOLUTION AND NATURAL SELECTION 21 The History of Evolutionary Theory Slide 1 Title slide Slide 2 As discussed briefly in the Introductory lecture one of the major changes that had to occur in our understanding of the natural world was that organisms change over time and that no species remain the same foreverin fact CHANGE is the one constant in biological history Slide 3 In traditional biblically oriented thinking species had been created in the exact form that we see them today and they had always been in this formfixity of species This was all part of gods design of the world which was in the teaching of Christian religions supposed to be perfect and unchanging There had been people questioning this mostly quietly or to themselves for many centuries because they were regularly faced with evidence to the contrary in the world around themSlide 4 How does a person explain the fossil remains of species that dont y dinosaurs for example exist todaSlide 5 While new species dont emerge in the span of one persons lifetime a person can actually watch a new breed of dog sheep or cattle
