Import chinese civilization: envoys to china, study in chang"an luoyang, in tang dynasty, abe no nakamaro , passed civil exam at top marks, emperor forbad abe to return back to china. Nara buddhism: flowering of buddhism- several new schools imported, religion of the capital, sponsored by court and great families, todai , eastern great temple, gradual syncretism (coming together)of buddhism and shinto started.
