Information processing: (stimulus to receive signal to response) 1) receptor cell perceives external stimuli/transduce info to an internal signal. 2) hormone (cell to cell signal) released by receptor cell and travels throughout body. 3) responder cells receive the hormone signal and transduce into an internal signal and changes activity. Plants receive info from several different hormones at the same time (different hormones interact with one another and regulate cell response) Gene transcription turned on or off/enzymes activated or deactivated. 2) receptor protein changes shape in response to signal (info forms changes too called transduction) 3) activate or repress transcription/change ion flow through channel or pump/activate or repress translation. Blue light (phototropic response) plants exhibit a phototropic response if blue wavelengths are available but show no response if blue wavelengths are not present. Plant move towards blue light (important for photosynthesis) Coleoptiles: modified leaf that forms sheath protecting emerging shoots of young grasses.
