Uses a scienti c approach to make a speci c diagnosis. Focuses on the disorder rather than the patient. Goal is to prevent morbidity (e. g. disability) and mortality (death). Morbidity and mortality are correlated with risk factors such as age, sex, family health history, alcohol and tobacco use, high fat diet, lack of exercise, income, occupation etc. Informing health care providers who can then act as a resource for individuals and communities.
