BPK 325 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Levator Scapulae Muscle, Rhomboid Minor Muscle, Serratus Anterior Muscle
Document Summary
Individual cells or ibres are spindle-shaped and lack cross striaions non-striated muscle: autonomic nervous system controlled. Isometric contracion- muscle develops tension but its length remains unchanged; atemping moving object that"s too heavy. Innervated by 7th cranial nerve iv: muscles of masicaion, atach to mandible; concerned with chewing, act upon the temporomandibular joint and bring about the forcible closure of the jaws & side-to-side chewing movement. Intrinsic muscles of the vertebral column- composed of many small, paired muscles that are oriented verically & obliquely & lie on either side of the vertebral column; extend from pelvis to skull ix. Erector spinae- largest muscle in the lumbar region; originates from sacrum, iliac crest & spinous processes of lumbar vertebrae: anterolateral & posterior vertebral muscles help maintain balance and erect posture and thereby control either backward or forward bending. The pre-vertebral (anterolateral vertebral) muscles and the postvertebral (posterior vertebral) muscles act together to bring about rotaion of the vertebral column.
