Levels of analysis beyond one-on-one neg: multi-party negs. 3+ indvs, each representing their own interests, attempt to resolve perceived diffs of interests. Social interactions become more complex, info-processing demands , coalitions form. Groups able to make more accurate judgments, more readily aggregate info than indvs. Dealing w/coalitions: coalition = group of 2+ indvs who join together in using their resources to affect the outcome of a decision in a mixed-motive situation involving at least 3 parties. One way otherwise weak group members may marshal a greater share of resources. Involve cooperating in terms of attracting members & competition in terms of dividing resources. Riskier b/c involved cooperation of 2+ group members. E. g. secret santa: reciprocal trade-offs = fashioned btwn 2 members of a larger group.
