Consumerism is a historical development it has been naturalized but we shouldn"t think of it as a nautral thing so we can actually criique and think about it. Consumerism did not start at the 1850s trading started way before then. Prior to 1850s only really high class ppl bourgeousis were the ones who paricipated in consumerism it was a upper class thing. In 1850s, consumerism and culture undergoe a transformaion. Up unil 1850s culture was understood as a single thing there wenret cultures it was a culture of the frnech a culture of the english but there wasn"t cultures. Culture increasingly starts to the ways of life, ways of living, pracices, forms of communicaion. From 1850s to beginning of 2000s, socal and economic changes encourage a more wildly spread sense of what culture refers to ways of living ways of life.
