COGS 110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Procrastination
Document Summary
Cogs 110 - lecture 9 - the value equation. Procrastination as a natural consequence of the value equation. In moral decision, we have many choices of actions. What makes humans interesting - we have evolved through history of species, tendency to value certain things over others. Cognitive system is calculating what rewards are. Each value represents cost/benefit modified by likelihood & time. Rewards not certain not as good that are not as certain. Actions are combinations of diff costs & benefits going into decisions. E. g. studying can seem rewarding, but if you study hard & fail, doesn"t seem as rewarding anymore. Value = reward x probability of success over delay x impulsiveness + 1. Particular reward has particular probability of getting reward. If it is less than 1, it pulls down value of reward. V cannot be worth more than r. Delay - how far in the future reward is going to happen.
