Can be presented in parole hearings: victim attendance at parole hearings (controversy) Attention goes more towards victim rather than offender and pressure to follow what the victim wants. Cuts to funding: services are not possible. Usually paid by private insurance companies rather than the offender: rarely will the property be actually recovered. Criminal injury compensation: financial settlement paid out by provincial government. Expenses or damages related directly to the crime (doctor appointments, lost wages at work)
