The true level of security breaches is difficult to gauge. Suspicion that organizations prefer *not* to report incidents. Greater risk to organizations comes from inside the organization. The media tend to exaggerate risks and threats. For most organizations, the greatest perceived threat lies in aggressive actions against the local network, data or resources. Intrusion is worrying since it suggests hostile intent. An intrusion is any attack that results in illicit access to a computer system.
