Takes place in diverse environments: big country, small population. Most resources concentrated to the southern portions of the country (more urban) Arrangements for policing are complex and convoluted. More accountability measures than any other branch of the cjs. Four levels: federal, provincial, municipal, first nations. Private security and para-police (e. g. , cp railway police, cn railway police) In addition: metro vancouver transit police & cbsa: only armed transit police in canada. Largest police serves: rcmp, tps, opp, sq, spvm. Complex and confusing see greater vancouver for best example. Provincial police in ontario, quebec, and part of newfoundland and labrador. Rcmp police provincially in all other provinces and part of newfoundland. Rcmp police municipally in bc under contract (e. g. , coquitlam, burnaby, surrey) Governed by rcmp act: practice in standards, powers, criminal code. Provides provincial/municipal contract policing to all provinces/territories except quebec, Bc: joint federal/provincial policing agreement for delivery of contract services to specific municipalities.
