Crim 316 - lecture 5 - paraphilias & special groups of offenders. Crime of profit-driven exploitation facilitated through use of force, fraud, coercion. All indivs involved in commercial sexual activities contributing to exploitation of others. Exchange of sex acts for basic needs. Could be legally classified as sex trafficking if exchange of sex involves indiv younger than 18. Sexual abuse by adult & remuneration in case or anything of value to child or third party/person. Child treated as sexual object & as commercial object. Adults exchanging legal/illegal commercial sexual activities must prove they were sexually exploited by force/fraud/coercion. Otherwise, will not be granted human trafficking victim status. Largely unknown - studies existing suffer from small & non-representative samples lacking comparison groups. Vulnerable victims - less willing/unable to report. Physical force/psychological techniques used to intimidate victims & keep them from reporting.
