Agenda: history of hr in international law, subjects of international law, sources of international law, protecting hr under international law (problems) E. g. , water, shelter, etc: international criminal court the rome statute (1998). Conventions: customary international law, general principles (contract law, tort law, but at international levels) Negations and consolation agreement adoption and signature rati cation (reservations) accession. *reservations: you can be bound by something, but make exceptions. Roman statute therefore, they can violate it with no repercussion: ratifying: Rise of states that place more emphasis on economic rights on global power dynamics (russia, China: social/cultural rights: right to participation, right to take part in cultural life, etc. Week 3(a): introduction to international human rights: legal, tribunals (icc, icj, social", media attention, economic, sanctions withdrawal of enterprise, political, naming and shaming. Problems with international human rights: enforcement, eliciting compliance, punishing violations, legitimacy, who creates il, whose interests, law vs. politics.
