Dna application: progress on the back of 30 years of rapid advances in molecular biology, 1st description of a forensic application in 1985 - alec jeffreys, invented the pcr method. Many applications: anything which contains dna can in theory be analyzed to produce a dna pro le. Crime scene analysis: matching biological evidence found at the scene of a crime to a suspect, most common use. Volume of crime scene analysis: limitless, many decisions made at the crime scene, usually used at serious crimes, homicides, sexual assault, to establish identity. Human identi cation: matching human remains to relatives: mass graves, plane crashes, etc, dna can predict: eye colour & hair colour. Week 9 dna application: bone is a highly vascularized tissue which is full of cells throughout. It is likely, although not proven, that cellular dna adheres to the mineralized surfaces of the porous network within bone during decomposition.
