Document Summary

And, (b) in addition, to visible minorities and aboriginal peoples, what other groups might we be concerned with when it comes to equity and diversity? (cid:713) Discrimination takes many shapes- from mere avoidance to threats, intimidating behavior, which may even lead to a harmful crime. Although it rarely does go that far, discrimination in day-to-day life can have many unhealthy physical and/or mental effects. Some physical effects on the individual who is being discriminated against may include stress-related illness or high-blood pressure; whereas some of the emotional effects can be depression, bipolar illness, low self-esteem, and isolation. Canada, many are being discriminated due to their race, age, gender, disability, religious beliefs, or economic/social needs. These discriminations should be avoided as much as possible. Therefore, it is essential that we address topics of equality and diversity in education. The importance of promoting these topics is not only to decrease the amount of discrimination and its harmful effects.
