Dealing with diversity in classrooms can be challenging. Teacher-student relationships were found to predict a number of academic and behavioural outcomes. Evidence is mounting for strong relationships and school performances and students with behavioural problems are less likely to have problems later in school if their first teacher is sensitive to their needs. Measure of teachers preparation and certification were the strongest predictors of student achievement in reading and mathematics. Differentiated instruction = teaching that takes into account students abilities, prior knowledge and challenges so that instruction matches not only the subject being taught but also student"s needs. Educational psychology = the discipline concerned with teaching and learning processes; it applies the methods and theories of psychology and has its own well. From the beginning psychology in north america was linked to teaching. From 40s to 50s study was concentrated on individual differences, assessment and learning behaviours.
