Travelling thorough the dark by william stafford is a poem that interprets a story in a simple, clear and lucid poetic manner. Throughout the poem the poet has used a conversational tone and several elements of good a storytelling (action, dialogue, description etc. ) that has made the style of this poem unique. Under such circumstances, a person could either avoid his task or perform it sincerely and it is this decision only, which reflects his ethical behavior. Furthermore, the poet uses the technique of enjambment in the first stanza to bring immediate attention of the readers from "living deer" to "dead deer". Hence in this way, stafford has revealed the instability and the delicacy of life in an instantaneous manner. The poet efficiently uses diction and fine imagery to represent a conversational tone. For instance, in the second stanza, the poet says," by glow of the tail-light" which indirectly reminds.
