Insomnia- the implicit allusions provided, changes the meaning of the poem. Those that understood the inverted allusion will probably understand the well allusion as well. The speaker wants the whole world to be inverted so that same sex marriage is the norm. Inversion: alludes to a book wherein they talk about same sex desire, sexual inversion. However, they didn"t say that this was bad. What if it is a dead reference: allusions are understood by many. It doesn"t matter because you can still make meaning from the other devices used in the poem. The way a poem is told is what it means. There is meaning in how something is said. *how something is said is what it means (the medium is the message) *how it is said is what it is saying. *you don"t understand the message if you don"t know how it is packaged. How you say things (the medium) gives it tone.
