Formal essay authors = argue directly for change in our social habits, attitudes changes in typical ways of our life in society: concentrate on areas of our shared experience. The way their disciplines named in the academic world shows this field orientation. Many such essays = supported w/evidence + authors take a lot of care to cover the issue w/a view to answer counter arguments. Literary analysis & commentary = marks out a discipline/field: english literature = academic subject, but while some social sciences = inform literary approaches to creative texts. Literature = has approaches, methods, rigor, lexicon of its own. Critical judgments about essays on social or literary matters often rest on an exterior standard like coverage: such evaluation = can quickly involve other areas like overall philosophical or political position/values.
