Document Summary
The object of this experiment was to calculate the hydrostatic force a fluid exerts on a submerged plane surface and then compare the experimental hydrostatic force to the theoretical hydrostatic force. The first first centre of pressure is the average location of all of the pressure acting upon a body moving through a fluid. The centre of pressure apparatus allows us to measure the moment due to the fluid thrust on a submerged plane. First we place the center of pressure apparatus on a level surface. Then we add weight (1 n) to the weight hanger of the center of pressure apparatus. Next we start pouring water into the torus until the added weight of the water balances the lever arm about the pivot to a horizontal position and we record the vertical height of the water. We repeat these step while increasing weight by 1 n each time (up to 6 n).
